Blessed are the husband and wife who continue to be affectionate, considerate, and loving after the wedding bells have ceased from ringing.

Blessed are the husband and wife who are as polite and courteous to one another as they are to their friends.

Blessed are they who love their mates more than any other person in the world, and who joyfully fulfill their marriages vow of a lifetime of fidelity and mutual helpfulness to one another.

Blessed are they who attain parenthood, for children are a heritage from the Lord.

Blessed are they who remember to thank God for their food before they partake of it, and who set apart some time each day for the reading of the Bible and for prayer.

Blessed are those mates who never speak loudly to one another, and who make their home a place "where seldom is heard a discouraging word".

Blessed are the husband and wife who faithfully attend the worship service of the church, and who work together in the church for the advancement of Christ's kingdom.

Blessed are the husband and wife who can work out the problems of adjustment without the interference from relatives.

Blessed is the couple which has complete understanding about financial matters, and have worked out a perfect partnership, with all money under the control of both.

Blessed are the husband and wife who humbly dedicate their lives and their homes to Christ, and who practice the teachings of Christ in the home by being unselfish, loyal, and loving.

The Jars

The preacher placed two identical jars on the table next to the pulpit. He quoted 1 Samuel 16:7 : The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.

"These jars came from the same factory, were made of the same materials, and can hold the same amount. But they are different", he explained. Then he upset one, and it oozed out honey. He turned over the other, and vinegar spilled out. "When a jar is upset, whatever is in it comes out. Until the jars were upset they looked alike. The difference was within and could not be seen, but when they were upset their contents were revealed", he stated.

When we are not upset we put on a good front, but when we are upset we reveal our innermost thoughts and attitudes, for "Out of the abundance of the heart his mounth speaks" (Luke 6:45)

What if someone tipped you over today? What would flow out? Would you reveal the "honey" of grace and patience, or the vinegar of anger and sarcasm?

"Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins" (1 Peter 4:8)

Never Alone

Do you know the legend of the Cherokee Indian youth's rite of passage? His dad takes him into the forest, blindfolded, and leaves him...alone.

He is required to sit on a stump the whole night... and to NOT take off the blindfold until the ray of sun shines through it. He is all by himself. He cannot cry out for help to anyone. Once he survives the night he is considered a MAN. He cannot tell the other boys of this experience. Each lad must come into his OWN manhood.

The boy was terrified... he could hear all kinds of noise...beasts were all around him. Maybe even some humans would hurt him. The wind blew the grass and earth, winds so strong it shook his stump.But he sat stoically, never removing the blindfold. It would be the only way he could be a man.

Finally, after a horrific night, the sun appeared and he removed his blindfold. It was then that he saw his father...sitting on the stump next to him...at watch....the entire night.

We are never alone. Even when we do not know it, our Father is protecting us...He is sitting on the stump beside us.

When the terrible acts of September 11, 2001 occurred, the world's reactions could be summarized under one heading: surprise--or, more accurately, shock. When events happen suddenly we are shocked and surprised. And our reaction illustrates what sets us apart from God: He knows the future and we don't.

Time is everything to us. We keep small devices attached to our wrists to tell us of every passing minute, and calendars record the passing of weeks, months, and years. But all of our time-keeping and calendar-watching cannot tell us what we would really like to know: the future. No one on earth (besides the perpetrators themselves) saw 9-11 coming, but Someone in heaven did. God even saw it coming before it was planned, because time means nothing to our eternal, all-knowing God. A day to Him is like a thousand years (2 Peter 3:8); He sees everything happening at once.

You may be surprised--even shocked--by something unexpected that happens today. But remember: God saw it coming and sees how it fits in the big picture of your life. You may not have seen it coming, but God did.

Every experience God gives us, every person He puts in our lives, is the perfect preparation for the future that only he can see.
